AWS (Amazon Web Services) – the Amazon cloud provider.
Cloud Computing – A type of computing that relies on sharing computing resources rather than having local servers or personal devices to handle applications. The goal of cloud computing is to apply traditional supercomputing, or high-performance computing power, to give the user the ability to perform tens of trillions of computations per second.
Cloud Computing Reseller – a company that purchases services from a cloud provider and then re-sells them to its own customers. CSU operates as a cloud computing reseller.
Cloud Migration – The process of transitioning all or part of a company’s data, applications and services from on-site premises behind the firewall to the cloud, where the information can be provided over the Internet on an on-demand basis.
Cloud Provider – A service provider that offers customers storage or software solutions based on cloud computing.
Cloud Service Unit (CSU) – a service offered by IUCC. A unit that operates as a cloud computing reseller to the Israeli academy and offers support in working on the cloud.
Cloud Storage – Cloud storage means “the storage of data online in the cloud”, wherein a company’s data is stored in and accessible from multiple distributed and connected resources that comprise a cloud.
Emind – A leading Israeli company, partnered with Amazon and Google. Workd with CSU to provide support for researchers who wish to work on these companies’ cloud platform. Has vast experience with introducing people to the cloud.
IUCC (Inter University Computation Center) – established in 1984 by Israel’s eight universities, IUCC operates as a non-profit organization that serves the Israeli academy. IUCC deals with communication infrastructures, digital information services, joint procurement, learning technologies and grid computing infrastructures and also promotes cooperation in these areas among its member institutions, and between research institutes and organizations active in research and education which share these common interests. IUCC implements, operates and maintains the National Research and Education Network of Israel and in its sphere of activities, manages and provides a wide range of services.
